<image:title>Digestive Issues - COOPER</image:title>
<image:caption>We got Cooper, a Lab/Australian Cattle Dog Mix, at 9 weeks and we had him almost 13 years. Cooper had pancreatitis three times. It was so sad and awful. We were sent home from the conventional vet with no answers. We were told to give him boiled chicken breast and white rice. It would work for a while, and then it would happen again. We struggled for about three years with these issues. We were willing to try anything with him and got really excited when we heard about Dr. Sheppard (we have since referred several friends to him and they have been so happy with the results). I like the holistic approach and getting to the root of the problem. My husband, Randy was a little bit more skeptical but very willing to try anything for our pup. We never had another bout of pancreatitis after stepping out of Sheppard Animal Care. We immediately changed his diet (chicken was a no-no for him) and stuck to all his supplements. After Cooper passed, we rescued another dog, and we immediately brought him to Sheppard Animal Care. We wanted to start him out of the right path. We appreciate all that Dr. Sheppard and Nutrition Response Testing have done for us. We got so many more years with Cooper being active and healthy. He was loved and always will be missed.</image:caption>

<image:title>Digestive Issues - KEBO</image:title>
<image:caption>Kebo is now a 10 ½ year-old Sheltie. When he was younger, he struggled with digestive issues and allergies. He had been on steroids several times, but could barely tolerate them. I thought I was feeding him a high-quality food, but he started vomiting, having diarrhea, and would not even go for walks, which were his favorite thing! After going to Sheppard Alternative Animal Care, he started supplements and changed his diet. Before we knew it, Kebo was quickly returning to his normal happy self. He regained his puppy energy and started walking 2-3 miles a day again. He doesn’t itch anymore and his digestive issues cleared up. Now that he is older, I truly do not think he would still be with us if it weren’t for the wonderful care he’s gotten over the years at SAAC!</image:caption>

<image:title>Digestive Issues - COCO</image:title>
<image:caption>In December 2017, Coco was given 3 vaccines by her conventional vet. By Jan 2018, she had bruising and developed what our vet called autoimmune thrombocytopenia, basically low platelets with internal bleeding. This can be caused by a bad reaction to vaccines. Our vet said she may die and put her on anti-cancer meds and heavy steroids. Coco had several reactions from these meds including liver problems. Instead of improving, she was getting worse. A friend recommended Dr Sheppard, and we decided to make an appointment. He immediately lowered her meds and started her on supplements. He kept her on lower dose steroids, gradually weaning her off along with my traditional vet. When I first saw the nutrition response testing, I was skeptical. I heard such good success stories and felt like there was nothing to lose, so we decided to stick with it. As time went by and vitamins were added and subtracted, Coco was improving. After 2 months, we noticed great improvements in Coco. By 4 months, she was back to her playful healthy self. Currently, Coco is 5 years old and doing terrific!!! She is happy and playful. She is not throwing up or having loose stools anymore and just takes a few maintenance supplements. She is happy, healthy and alive…we are extremely grateful!! Our experience has been very great. We use holistic treatment whenever possible (Purification essential oils for flea and tick prevention and no more unnecessary chemicals and treatments) Thank you, Dr. Sheppard and staff!</image:caption>

<image:title>Digestive Issues - GOOSE & MAVERICK</image:title>
<image:caption>Maverick is a 5-year-old fawn Boxer and Goose 3-year-old brindle Boxer. Boxers are known for heart issues and cancer. Knowing this, our goal was to keep our boys as healthy as possible for as long as possible. They both have struggled with seasonal allergies and digestive issues, and Goose has some food allergies. We wanted to learn how to recognize the triggers and get them under control without needing steroids, as we have needed in the past. When we started seeing Dr. Sheppard, we knew we needed to be very open-minded, but I was so desperate to have a Boxer live longer than 8 years that I was willing to try anything. We switched to raw feeding, with the help of Becky Miglio and the Sheppard’s. We have literally stopped making emergency vet visits due to upset stomachs and diarrhea, no more gas, their coats are fantastic and their weight is perfect. We also stopped flea and tick treatments, vaccines (other than the mandated Rabies), and no chemicals in the yard. All of these changes have produced two very healthy, happy Boxers. Maverick and Goose continue to thrive every single day. Maverick just got back his 5-year blood work-up that Dr Sheppard had done, and his numbers are fantastic. One of the biggest things that sticks out in my mind regarding the Sheppard’s is they are so accessible, whether by phone, messaging or in person. They have never made me feel that I was bothering them or wasting their time. We see the success our pups have had, and I'm always sharing what I've learned. I can't stress enough how life-changing SAAC has been for our dogs. These are two of the finest people we've met, and I'm so glad they have shared their knowledge with us all of the years!</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - MAXINE</image:title>
<image:caption>I was at my wits end! I didn't know what to do for my baby girl anymore! I was heartbroken that she was so miserable with her allergies. I've tried everything… raw diets, very expensive tests, and medications! Only to have a temporary fix, but in time they made matters worse. I was recommended by a friend to Sheppard Alternative Animal Care. I didn't even know we had alternative vets in our area! We made our first appointment about 4 years ago and have been going back ever since. My baby is a happy and healthy puppy again. I couldn't be happier. Here are before and after pics. I will always recommend Dr. Sheppard to everyone I know. He fixed what no one else could… Naturally!!!!</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - FOSTER</image:title>
<image:caption>Foster is a 10-year-old cockapoo. For years, he suffered from horrible allergies that effected his everyday quality of life. The conventional vet treated his allergies with medication and drops for his ears. He was treated this way for 3 years with no lasting improvements until he found Dr. Sheppard. We were skeptical when first starting the program, but within weeks of changing his diet and adding in the necessary supplements, we saw real improvements in Foster’s symptoms. As time went by, he continued to improve and become less sensitive to things that used to flare up his allergies. His quality of life improved so much. Currently, Foster is doing well and has minimal flare ups outside seasonal allergies. His gut is healed and is a happy dog! We are so grateful for all Sheppard Alternative Animal Care has done for Foster.</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - DUKE & PRINCE</image:title>
<image:caption>We've had Duke and Prince since they were pups and from the beginning, they were both plagued with terrible ear infections. After numerous vet visits (5 different veterinarians) and many different medications, we were never able to get the ear infection issues under control. Poor Duke had not 1 but 2 emergency stone removal surgeries, and this is after changing his food to a low purine diet which was vet recommended after his 1st surgery. This food was nasty, disgusting and he would struggle just to eat it. After the 5th veterinarian, the vet was honest enough to say that we have tried everything and it must be some type of allergy with no suggestions on how to test for allergies but trial and error. These poor dogs have suffered enough and after an extensive online search, we discovered Dr. Sheppard's Alternative Animal Care. We figured what the heck, we have tried everything that the current conventional veterinarians could offer. After their 1st visit with Dr. Sheppard, we discovered that they were sensitive to many foods we were feeding them including, beef, lamb, chicken, eggs, cheese, rice, wheat etc… ingredients found in most dog food. Within 2 weeks under Dr. Sheppard's care, including the change in diet and added supplements, both of their ear infections were cured. We noticed their eyes were much clearer, they stopped itching and their energy levels went THROUGH THE ROOF. At long last, our dogs were happy and healthy and this healing is nothing short of a miracle. Dogs are unable to speak but they do give us signs about their health. I proudly recommend Dr. Sheppard to everyone I know that has pets and the entire staff is simply AWESOME and AMAZING. We cannot thank you enough!!</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - GIBBI</image:title>
<image:caption>Gibbi is a 9-year-old Dobrador. We brought Gibbi to Dr. Sheppard because we wanted to give her a good start after rescue. I knew him from his days at Serenity in the traditional setting. When my previous dog was dying, I brought her to Dr. Sheppard to make her last days better. Just by doing the muscle testing, he knew what was wrong without even telling him about the blood work, x-rays, ultrasound etc. We lost her in a few days but I learned a lot while I was there. I determined that after losing 3 dogs to cancer, we were going to follow the holistic route with our new dogs Gibbi and Allie. When Gibbi started coughing, I took her to the traditional vet because I thought it was not a nutritional issue. They couldn’t find anything but gave me an antibiotic which cost almost 500 dollars. I was uncomfortable with giving it to her so I brought her into SAAC. After one visit, Dr. Sheppard found she was sensitive to some allergens in my home, which I removed. She stopped coughing immediately. That solidified my belief. My dogs don’t itch, have gas, overly shed, belch, etc. They play like puppies and have the most beautiful coats. I’m thankful we decided to try a different method of caring for our girls.</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - SAPHIRA</image:title>
<image:caption>Saphira is a 10-year-old Siberian Husky. When she was young, Saphira suffered from digestive issues, including loose stools, severe allergies, and itchiness. She was very lethargic and unhappy. We struggled for several months to try and figure out what was wrong with her. The conventional veterinarian gave her steroids and antibiotics, but never really fixed any of her chronic issues. We started seeing Dr. Sheppard looking for answers. Although it was all new, he explained everything he was doing, and it just made sense to us. Thanks to Dr. Sheppard, we were informed about her food and environmental allergies. He also addressed the bacterial infection in her gut. She switched from metal to glass bowls, changed her diet, and added in the necessary supplements. Within a week, we had already seen massive improvements. Her allergies lessened and her digestive issues have been clear ever since. Saphira is turning 10 very soon and has only began to slow down. She’s been overall extremely healthy for starting life with so many issues. “My experience has always been a positive one, I really enjoy our vet visits. I love learning about their methods and the new techniques they incorporate in their practice. They whole team has been wonderful with both Saphira and myself when I get a little anxious about potential problems.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Allergies & Skin Conditions - OLIVER</image:title>
<image:caption>Oliver is a 9 year-old Black Lab Mix. Prior to coming to SAAC, Oliver was having severe allergic reactions causing him to bite/chew his paws, ear infections, skin lesions on his belly and just overall discomfort from being an itchy mess. Recurring visits to the traditional vet, being poked and prodded and having bad experiences caused Oliver to develop an intense fear of the vet, resulting in needing to carry all 80+lbs of him in to the building. Oliver struggled with his allergies the first 5 years of his life. Between a constant cycle of steroids, antibiotics, being prescribed ACE to help with Oliver's fear of the vet, nothing seemed to help and I knew I needed to search for other options to give Oliver a happy, healthy life. I was not satisfied with the answers from the traditional vet and knew I owed it to Oliver to explore other options for him. I had briefly heard of muscle testing from a friend, so the Nutrition Response Testing wasn’t a total surprise. I was super intrigued by how this could be applied to pets, in a similar way that it is used in humans. Oliver is a whole new dog. I saw immediate results after our first visit to SAAC and knew I had found our new home. To begin, Oliver was never fearful of going in to the building, sat patiently in the room and left our first appointment so happy! Seeing such a drastic change in his demeanor and response to SAAC, I sat in my car and cried because I knew this was just the beginning to his healing journey. Health-wise, Oliver continues to surprise me with how well his body reacts to the supplements and his new grain free diet. I get compliments on his shiny coat, he still gets a little itchy during peak allergy season (who doesn’t!?), but nowhere near the level he was at prior to SAAC. I have referred nearly everyone who will listen, who has pets that have issues to go see Dr Sheppard. Three years ago, I got a second puppy, Piper and immediately brought her in for testing. She has been a healthy, happy pup ever since. She is my naughty little puppy who gets in to all sorts of trouble, so my calls to SAAC for Piper are usually around "Piper just ate a chocolate bar…Piper just ate a whole bottle of Multizyme.” Dr. Sheppard, Melissa, and the rest of the SAAC staff are like family; I love them all dearly and so appreciate their sharing of their time, talents and love for Piper and Oliver. I look forward to many more years with SAAC!</image:caption>

<image:title>Arthritis & Orthopedic Conditions - MR. BUNGLE</image:title>
<image:caption>Mr. Bungle is a 10-year-old Maltese. Before seeing Dr Sheppard, he struggled with a partially torn ligament in his knee, he was overweight, and had itchiness and allergies. His issues with weight at the time did not help his knee injury. We tried various foods and diets (along with as much exercise as possible with a hurt knee) to get the weight off with no luck. The conventional vet wanted to do surgery on his knee but I was not comfortable doing so without a second opinion. I had heard great things about SAAC and decided to get a second opinion. I was slightly familiar with what Dr. Sheppard does due to previously seeing a chiropractor who did nutrition response testing. I thought it was interesting seeing how it all worked. Mr. Bungle is doing great now. He is at a healthy weight, his knee has been healed with no issues, and his allergies have gotten immensely better. I knew SAAC was working due to seeing these results along with Mr. Bungle having an increase in energy. My experience at SAAC has been fantastic. I am so grateful I found Dr. Sheppard and the SAAC staff. Mr. Bungle is my life and I want him to be as healthy and happy as he can be. SAAC is always willing to help and answer any questions or concerns I may have.</image:caption>

<image:title>Arthritis & Orthopedic Conditions - HENRY</image:title>
<image:caption>After receiving a rabies vaccination at the age of 7, Henry experienced decreased mobility, energy, and poor appetite. After a few weeks, his symptoms progressed, and he was unable to use his rear legs. He had to be lifted and carried outside and help up when standing. Regular veterinarians and a veterinary neurologist were unable to determine the cause of his symptoms and just gave him pain meds. We decided to see Dr. Christina of Advanced Animal Chiropractic and she recommended we see Dr. Sheppard. At Henry’s first visit to see Dr Sheppard, his condition was so weak we had to carry him in/out of our car, and up to Dr Sheppard’s office. He was only able to stand briefly and had lost all muscle tone and strength in his rear legs. Within about 2-3 days of taking the recommended supplement protocol as well as the change in his food, Henry displayed increased energy levels and his appetite started to improve. He began to stand for longer periods of time. Within 5 days, Henry was able to walk short distances within our home and was steadier on his feet. Within one week, he was moving more and more quickly. We were shocked and amazed at how quickly Henry’s physical condition was improving. Two weeks after our initial visit with Dr. Sheppard, Henry began running. Within one-month, Henry was running full speed, displaying high energy levels, and his muscle tone was improving. His disposition was energetic, happy, and he had no signs of pain or weakness (his normal self). Throughout our time seeing Dr Sheppard for routine checkups, Henry continued to remain healthy, full of energy with no further complications for nearly 3 years until he was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma at age 10. We credit Dr Sheppard for saving Henry’s life when we initially began seeing him. He allowed Henry to regain his health and live a full life for his last three years with our family. We always found Dr Sheppard to be empathetic, thorough, and professional. He is truly an expert in the intersection of veterinary medicine and holistic & functional medicine. We will always remain appreciative of Dr Sheppard and his team for the support they provided to our beloved Henry. We have referred many pet owners to Dr Sheppard and will continue to do so indefinitely as what he is able to offer pets and their owners cannot be found elsewhere.</image:caption>

<image:title>Special Conditions - DAISY</image:title>
<image:caption>Daisy was born Dec 16th, 2008. We were looking for a yellow lab specifically, and her picture showed up on the internet. We wanted her. We could tell her personality was going to be the kind of pet we wanted. She was a princess from day one and was very picky. Not a typical lab. She didn’t like certain smells and didn’t like to walk in other dogs’ eliminations. She was one of a kind. We noticed Daisy was having issues with secreting her anal sacs when she was around 4 years old. I would take her to the vet every 3-4 months to get them secreted. In 2016, My husband and I had to go out to California for 6 months for my husband’s work. Of course, we took Daisy with us. She flew across the country to be with her daddy and very pregnant mommy. In February 2016, I decided to take her to a veterinarian in California after being there for a month because Daisy had anal gland issues. She couldn’t express them on her own all the time. I also wanted the vet to check her over to make sure she was well from flying across the country. I will never forget that visit. Being only out there for less than a month, we had bad news about Daisy. The doctor found a tumor on her anal gland sac. She wanted to do a biopsy right away to make sure it wasn’t cancer, but she was confident that it was. Test results came in and yes, she had anal gland adenocarcinoma cancer. It is a very fast-growing cancer. We found an oncologist right away, and we were able to schedule a surgery within a few weeks. They removed a pea size tumor along with 10 cm muscles surrounding it. She was only 7 years old in March of 2016! We couldn’t even think about going through chemotherapy and radiation with her since I was pregnant and also, we wanted our Daisy to be Daisy. We couldn’t think of her being any different and wanted her to enjoy life out in California and beyond. They gave Daisy 9 months to 1 ½ year with chemotherapy and radiation. They estimated less than a year and without medication. I was referred to Dr. Sheppard from a close Friend of ours, Lisa, and when I came home from California, I made the call to get an appointment right away. We were able to get in before I had my daughter in June of 2016. Dr. Shepherd put Daisy on supplements and changed her diet. He did rectal exam on her to make sure the tumor didn’t come back. We did this every 3-4 months to keep her healthy and to make sure the tumor was not back. Daisy lived almost exactly 5 years later after having the surgery to remove the tumor. The cancer did end up coming back but there was no way of knowing unless we did X-rays every 6 months. Dr. Sheppard did everything he could to keep her longer, but the cancer was too much on Daisy and we had to say goodbye to her a month after we found out that the cancer was back. We said goodbye to Daisy on March 5th, 2021. We are enterally grateful for Dr. Sheppard and his team for taking such great care of Daisy. He gave us 5 extra years with Daisy and kept her as she was, our Daisy. She was able to be a big sister twice to our daughter & son and she enjoyed every minute of it. She always enjoyed seeing Dr. Sheppard and the staff as opposed to other typical veterinarians. That was one thing Daisy hated going to the ‘typical’ vet. She was comfortable with Dr. Sheppard and she knew she was going to be taken care of. I will only take our next pup to Dr. Sheppard. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to care for our pets. Every pet is unique and not every pet needs the same diet and supplements. He did wonders for our Daisy and I highly recommend Dr. Sheppard!</image:caption>

<image:title>Special Conditions - COCO</image:title>
<image:caption>Coco is a 12-year-old chocolate lab. Before bringing him into Dr. Sheppard, Coco’s appetite has disappeared and became very lethargic and sick. He was not himself and we were looking to find answers. The conventional veterinarian did extensive blood and glucose testing, treating his diabetes, but we started seeing Dr. Sheppard in hopes to get Coco back to the happy dog he once was. When we first came to Sheppard Alternative Animal Care, we were very open to alternative medicine and the importance of diet because of the struggles with my daughter’s health and food sensitivities. It made a lot of sense to apply it to Coco as well. We were desperate to get him back to normal and would do anything to help him! Dr. Sheppard put Coco on a strict fish diet with vegetables and the prescribed supplements. In the five years we have been seeing Dr. Sheppard, he has done amazing. Along with his raw protein and vegetable diet, Coco is on a very low dose of insulin for his size. The conventional vets are often surprised at how low the dose is, and that it has been decreased since his diabetes diagnosis. We attribute that to the diet and supplements recommended by Dr Sheppard. He does not have as many food sensitivities and is a happy dog all around. Our experience has been amazing. It’s obvious Dr Sheppard loves what he does and cares for the success of his patients. I have referred many friends to see him.</image:caption>

<image:caption>When we brought Nellie home as a puppy, our conventional vet asked us why we would get such an unhealthy breed of dog. White boxers are known to have multiple health issues. We’ve had boxers in the family for over 45 years and know what comes with this breed. We assumed we’d only have her for 5-6 years and she would endure multiple medications, allergies and surgeries. After our last boxers went through all of this, we wanted better. That’s when we found Dr Sheppard. Nellie has been his patient for many years now. She is 9.5 years old, and is the healthiest of all of our previous fawn colored boxers. We are very thankful for the entire staff at Sheppard animal care.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We’ve had three goldens in our family now, and Finnley has been the most energetic and happy golden we’ve ever had! We discovered Sheppard Animal Care from a family friend when our last golden, Merfy, was not doing well in 2015. We took Merfy into Dr. Sheppard, the entire office gave us such amazing advice and really took the time to educate us on everything we need to know about pet health. Unfortunately, it was too late for Merfy, but when we got out new pup Finnley, we knew we had to start him off on a better foot. Thanks to Dr. Sheppard and his team, Finnley has the greatest chance for lifelong health! All we want is our pup to have a long and happy life. Thanks to SAAC, we believe Finnley is doing just that!</image:caption>

<image:title>General Well-Being and Prevention - DAKOTA AND LUNA</image:title>
<image:caption>Dakota is a 10-year-old Siberian husky. As a puppy, she had a leaking problem and needed to have surgery to correct her unattached ureter. She has been going to Dr. Sheppard since she was 6 months old. She is doing well but recently has been leaking some so Dr. Sheppard has increased her supplements to support her problem. She is doing very well for her age and started her life with functional issues. I also have a 7-year-old husky named Luna. I started taking her to Dr. Sheppard at 6 months, and she is also doing well. Dr. Sheppard has been so helpful with what food and supplements they both need. I also look to him for guidance on titer testing and dosage for heartworm and flea and tick prevention. I would certainly attribute both my dog’s good health because of the care they receive from Sheppard Animal Care.</image:caption>

<image:title>General Well-Being and Prevention - FINNEGAN AND WILLOW</image:title>
<image:caption>Finnegan is a 9.5-year-young Brittany, and Willow is a 9-year-young Long-Haired Weimaraner. Finnegan started seeing Dr. Sheppard when he was a little nugget at only a few months old. He was having constant ear infections that traditional vets couldn't seem to clear up. On top of that, we could not find dog food that agreed with his little tummy. We struggled for several months with Finnegan's ears and food. At the time, he was going to daycare at Bark-A-Bout, so that's how we found out about Dr. Sheppard and have been seeing him ever since. Almost 10-years! We adopted Willow when she was 10-months old, and she immediately took a liking to trying to eat the sporadic lava rocks in the backyard. (Yes, she was stopped every time.) The first time Willow tried to eat a lava rock, we hoped it was just a one-off. The second time it was off to see Dr. Sheppard for her first visit anyway, and we were confident he'd have a solution. Sure enough, Willow was craving a certain mineral, and she took that supplement like candy and never touched the lava rocks again! I've always been very open to alternative and unconventional methods, so Nutrition Response Testing was never really weird to me. Currently, Finnegan & Willow are doing great! We're thrilled to be in the boring club most of the time now. We know seeing Dr. Sheppard has worked for both because we've seen the results for over 10-years. From ear infections, food allergies, eating rocks, bumps... you name it, there's always been a way to address everything, and I don't think it's ever taken longer than a week to see results... most of the time within a day or two! Finnegan & Willow have grown up into their best selves and we're happy we can give them the healthiest lives possible with their doctor, supplements, food, and exercise. After their initial problems, we never stopped seeing Dr. Sheppard for routine maintenance and any other little issue that has popped up... including sebaceous cysts that have literally popped! Our experience seeing Dr. Sheppard has been awesome! Not only do I trust him, but Finnegan & Willow do, too, and that's a big deal for them to feel comfortable. Finnegan & Willow are their own persons, but it's impossible to think of one without the other, so here they are together. Thank you Dr. Sheppard, Melissa, and your entire staff for always being there to guide these two along their journey.</image:caption>
